The Bounce Back Book ~ Review

The Bounce Back Book ~ Review, in my opinion, this is one of the best books to have in your arsenal while you are on your recovery journey. Written by Karen Salmansohn. I have been sober for 22 years (Can I get an Amen) and this book helps me. I found it in a bookstore in an airport not sure which one, but you can click the image and purchase it at Amazon.

I was drawn to the title and the soft texture of the book cover. Inside the pages are colorful and welcoming. I had just read a few words and knew I was going to purchase it. After all, it contained some of my favorite things, Tips, Quotes and Written Assignments. 

How the Bounce Back Book can help you in recovery

The Bounce Back Book intends to help you keep or get your act together when you are faced with issues you think are beyond your control. As you may know by now sobriety and abstinence is about facing “life on life terms.” That is why if you have been in treatment or attend 12 Step meetings you have been introduced to the Serenity Prayer.” If you haven’t heard of this prayer here it is for you.


“God grant me the Serenity to accept, 

the things I cannot change, 

the courage to change the things I can, 

and the Wisdom to know the difference”

So while you are attending meetings, going to church, praying, etc. the Bounce Back Book gives you tips, quotes, and assignments to help you do your part to bring about the outcome your desire.

The Bounce Back Book Tips

 There are 75 tips designed to motivate and inspire you.

Let me give you an example of one tip. Tip # 5 Turn over a new belief.  No matter what you are recovering from things won’t change if you don’t       believe that there can be change. What happens if you are not a believer?       You don’t take action you get, nada, zip. Just going through the day waiting for who knows what to happen. At the end of the day, you think, “Yep I was     right nothing is going to go right for me.” Some ask, “why am I trying.”    

You need someone to tell you “the best is yet to come”, which is one of several quotes provided for you in Tip #5.  Well, what if you are one of those people who has burnt so many bridges you don’t have anyone around who is willing to say those words to you. A book like this can help you with your negative self-talk.  

The Bounce Back Book Assignments

The written assignments are a call to action to think about something and to do something. The questions asked are thought provoking and to prove your commitment or to help you grasp the concept of a new thought you are instructed to go do something. Nothing difficult or intrusive.

One assignment asks that you think about what you are going through now and remember that the issue is in your life it is not your whole life.  That makes a difference don’t you think? Can you recall feeling like the whole world is against you when you are faced with disappointment?

Another assignment asks you to write a letter. I won’t spoil it by telling you what kind of letter but I will tell you the assignment is interesting.  

The Bounce Back Book is insightful, encouraging, thought provoking and I can tell you it has helped me get rid of some old ideas and be creative with new ones.
